LUKE DOLAN OPENS BARBERSHOP IN STANMORE

Luke Dolan has launched Luke’s Barbershop Stanmore, holding a successful press event last Thursday with turnouts from awesome barbers such as @dialacut_barbers and some of Luke’s friends including @rickisamhall.

The team offered free cuts and treatments all night until the early hours. On Saturday they extended the free trims and treatments to the public, with new customers travelling from around London to visit the shop.

Luke said: “Luke’s Barbershop Stanmore is a real jump into new uncharted waters for us. The brand is synonymous with giving the best award winning bespoke cuts in a comfortable and cool environment, but now with the inclusion of a spa that offers what you’d call beauty treatments, but really are true grooming treatments for men away from the generic salon experience. It really is “a whole new world” **yes I’m singing that Aladdin style!

“We truly believe that men’s barbershops and grooming spas will be the next big thing on our high streets offering the ultimate safe space for men to treat and pamper themselves after hard weeks at work or in preparation for big weekends or rejuvenating themselves after the big weekends finished!”

Lewis Capaldi gets Glastonbury ready at Johnny’s Chop Shop

Scottish chart-topper and social media star Lewis Capaldi stopped by London barbers Johnny’s Chop Shop to get groomed ahead of what he described as “the most important gig of his life” – Glastonbury 2019.

Having previously shared his nerves about the upcoming set, Lewis ensured his hair was looking slick and ready to compliment his individual style ahead of the massive gig.

His cut was a significant upgrade from his usual grooming experience, with female master barber Toastie Styles creating a mod look with a soft textured scissor cut. She used Born Lucky 2 in 1 shampoo to wash and prep his hair, finishing the look with Johnny’s Dry Shampoo to add texture and volume, and Wild Cat Hair Clay for hold and definition with a matt finish.

Lewis opened his set with his typical wit and unique flair, stepping out dressed as Noel Gallagher.

TAKARA BELMONT CELEBRATES 60 YEARS IN THE UK

Six decades has seen much change in the barbering and hairdressing industry, and indeed British culture. Since Takara Belmont arrived in London in 1959 it has presided over seismic shifts in fashion, culture, art and design that it has both influenced and been influenced by. Being at the heart of the world’s fashion capital cemented Takara Belmont’s position as a manufacturer of distinction and perception, as it continues to produce furniture and equipment icons that shape international barbering and hairdressing.

Over the course of the last six decades, Takara Belmont has created a number of furniture and equipment icons, like the Apollo 2 barber chair, which is still as revered today as it was welcomed upon its launch in the early 1960s.

Since then, they have created motorised chairs, foldaway basins and shampoo systems, as well as a number of iconic barber chairs, making life easier for the modern day barber.

BARBERSRIDE 2019 IS COMING

A group of barbering and bike-obsessed chums will congregate at The Speakeasy Barbershop in Liverpool in anticipation of their 3RD ANNUAL BARBERSRIDE. BarbersRide was the brainchild of a group of passionate barber and biker buddies – their shared passion for barbering and motorbikes was the catalyst to planning a 5-day UK road-trip adventure.

The ride has become as much about the journey as the evenings spent in prestigious barbershops taking inspiration from some of the world’s most in-demand barbers.

The mission: to raise as much funds and awareness as possible for a chosen charity whilst enjoying the unbeatable sense of camaraderie that only a motorcycling road trip could offer.

2019’s extravaganza is set to be the biggest yet with a record number of riders already signed up and a line up of some of the world’s most inspirational barbers hosting intimate events. Evenings hosted by  Alan Beak (Ruger), Joth Davies (Savills), Paul Taylor-Clinch (BlackSails), Mark Young (Swagger & Jacks) and Darren “Baldy” Kenny (Baldy Barbers) are likely to sell-out within hours!

Having raised in excess of £20,000 over 2017 & 2018 for charities including London’s Great Ormond Street and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, the BarbersRide Gang are now focussed on smashing their fundraising targets for 2019 for MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION. MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION is a national charitable organisation who create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

The event will run from the 10th to the 16th of August and the full trip costs £150 per rider, which includes full access to all five barbering ceremonies and after parties.

Scotland’s Best Barber revealed…

The winner of the Best Scottish Barber 2019 was announced at the Scottish Hair and Beauty event after an intense and exciting barber battle live on the Andis stage. James Johnstone beat off five other finalists to win the coveted title.

There was no shortage of talent this year, as the entrant numbers more than doubled from last year and the quality from the initial photography round made it a hard-hitting decision for the judges.

The six finalists spent a lot of time preparing for the live final and the commitment showed from the models selected to the level of skill and creativity present on stage. The winner, James Johnstone of Network Barber Club, impressed the judges in all areas of the criteria.

Baldy, lead Andis Educator and Head Judge said… “It’s really refreshing to see someone come back from disappointment last year, did his homework and raised his game to come back a well-deserved winner”.

Mike Taylor, Judge from the Great British Barbering Academy said: “After several years of doing the Comp the standard is getting higher and higher this year’s winner was well deserved and Scottish barbering has hit new highs”.
