In a history-making move, American Crew® ended the 2019 All-Star Challenge with a tie. Blade Pullman of Australia and Emma Jankowski of the USA were both awarded the title of American Crew® 2019 All-Star Challenge Global Champions. The awards took place during the brand’s 25th anniversary celebration in New York City last night.
“This year’s event not only marked American Crew’s 25th anniversary, but also the first time the judging panel couldn’t decide on just one winner for the All-Star Challenge,” said Gillian Gorman Round, Global General Manager of American Crew®. “The two winning styles from Blade Pullman and Emma Jankowski were so different but struck a unique balance, showcasing what we saw as the heritage, present and future of the American Crew man.”
Pullman and Jankowski were chosen from an elite group of 14 stylists, narrowed down from thousands of All-Star Challenge entries this year. The finale took place over a two day photo shoot at MILK studios. Finalists worked alongside industry experts to showcase their best cut and style, captured in photo by American Crew photographers, including Founder of American Crew® David Raccuglia. Through a blind judging process, the winning photos were awarded using a points system that scored on creativity, technical ability and a true portrayal of the American Crew® brand.
“For a stylist that is just starting out in his career, it has been amazing to be around all of the talented All-Star Challenge contestants. This experience has truly instilled in me the culture of the barbering community and how impactful this competition is for our industry,” said Blade Pullman, 2019 All-Star Challenge Global Champion.
“Having completed this journey, my biggest advice to other barbers would be to enter this competition,” said Emma Jankowski, 2019 All-Star Challenge Global Champion. “This has been one of the best experiences of my life.”
The two young stylists will both receive prizes that will help them continue to perfect their skills and grow their career in the men’s grooming category. Prizes include: $10,000 USD, the coveted American Crew® All-Star Challenge Global Champion Trophy, an invitation to become judges for the 2020 All-Star Challenge, a full scholarship to the new American Crew® Education Program and a feature in an upcoming issue of Estetica.

With the conclusion of a well-attended final event on May 13th in Racine, The Andis Foundation’s 2019 “Barbershop Mondays” program has come to a successful close. The community engagement series involved a partnership between Andis, the Milwaukee Bucks and community partner Safe & Sound to host a series of development events for at-risk young men in Southeast Wisconsin throughout the spring.
During a “Barbershop Mondays” event, youth community centers in Milwaukee & Racine are transformed into pop-up barbershops, offering free haircuts to young men between the ages of 10-23. Facilitated by Safe & Sound, the events are more than just a haircut with barbershop chairs providing a casual setting for open communication and dialogue among attendees. The focus of these discussions is on building social and emotional confidence, leadership and how youth can develop positive mentor relationships.
“Neighborhood barbershops have long played a critical role in their communities, providing a safe place for young men to gather and talk about issues with a positive role model – their barber,” said Laura Andis Bishop, President of Andis Foundation. “This innovative program is an extension of that important relationship.”
Along with the “Barbershop Mondays” community center events, Andis Educator and NBA Barber, Kenny Duncan, attended a Milwaukee Bucks game for a precision barbering demonstration to raise awareness for the program.
“The 2019 Barbershop Mondays season was a great success and an amazing opportunity for Andis to give back to our community,” added Andis. “Supporting local groups like Safe & Sound, with great partners like the Milwaukee Bucks, is an important part of our organization’s mission. We are already looking forward to the 2020 Barbershop Mondays series next spring!”

Schedulicity announced in April its #SchedulicityCares business grant, to award $5,000 to two active Schedulicity businesses each month.
On May 9, Schedulicity’s CEO Jerry Nettuno surprised Compton, California barbershop owner Donald (DC) Conley with a large check totaling $5,000. DC is the first barber to be awarded the grant and plans to put the $5,000 towards creating a safe place in his barbershop for the children of Compton. Wahl Professional has announced the promotion of Anne Marie Kollias to the position of U.S. Director of Sales and Marketing. Kollias had held the position of national sales manager for Wahl Professional since starting with the company in 2015. Kollias will continue to oversee all U.S. sales accounts and add day-to-day operations, marketing and product coordination responsibilities to her role.
“I am so proud to be part of this team and this journey, says Kollias. “Sales are the fuel that provides resources for Wahl’s continuous research, innovation and growth, says Kollias. “And marketing is Wahl’s opportunity to make connections with our customers and the professional beauty industry with many touchpoints that allow us to tell our story and build relationships. I’ve learned, no matter what category of this industry you work in, our business is a relationship-driven business from end to end. From manufacturer to distributor, distributor to salon, salon owner/manage to beauty professional and beauty professional to customer, we’re all in the people business.
“Anne Marie has been instrumental in growing our professional division within the U.S. As a result, it’s a natural fit for her to expand her role and we’re so pleased she’s accepted this challenge,” says Lance Wahl, Global Vice President of Professional Products.

We will continue to bring a fashion focus to the professional teams’ marketing and education efforts.”
Kollias’ previous positions include Vice President of Spa Operations for Me Spa, Spa Director, District Manager and National Field Sales Manager for Coldwater Creek.
