NEW BARBERSHOP RECEIVES AUTISM AWARD

Groomsman Barbers, a new barbershop in Eastbourne, is proud to have received the Autism Friendly award; one of less than 70 award-holders in England and the only awarded barbershop in the United Kingdom!

The barber shop, owned and run by accredited British Master Barber Tobias Wardleworth, was designed with care for the community in mind.  Tobias’ wife, Kate, has spent many years teaching in schools that care for those with various special educational needs so when Tobias opened his new shop on the corner of Cavendish Place and Seaside Road, they incorporated ideas into their design to cater for everyone.

“We know that letting someone into your personal space can be very traumatic for some, let alone with the sensory triggers of clipper sounds or scissors snipping so close. We wanted to offer a location that can be completely turned over to the needs of a client or family,” says Kate.

Appointments are bookable, so that the entire shop lighting, music and other aspects can be tailored to each person.

Tobias explains “This also means that parents and carers aren’t going to worry that a queue of people are going to be watching and waiting.”

Groomsman Barbers is also Dementia Friendly and aim to help every person enjoy the experience of personal grooming.

Bookings can be made via the Booksy app or at GroomsmanBarbers.co.uk

Wahl Professional Announces Barber Battle 3 Winners

Wahl Professional is pleased to announce the winners of its Barber Battle 3 competition. Andrew Rosario (@AndyFadeMaster) of West Palm Beach, FL has been awarded first place in the competition and earns an honorary year-long spot on the Wahl Education and Artistic Team (W.E.A.T.) and a prize package that includes the complete 5 Star line of tools.

Cory Hull (@thehellrazor) of Marysville, CA earns second place in the competition and was also offered an honorary W.E.A.T. membership for 2020 along with a selection of clippers, trimmers and finishing tools.

Josh Pereira (@iamjoshpereira) of Boston, MA has scored third place in the competition. The win gives him a spot on the Wahl Select team as well as a barber combo set and prize pack.

Wahl’s U.S. Director of Education, Lisa Finucane, chose three cuts for the competition – the mid/low bald fade, the Caesar and the modern mullet – to test entrants’ skills and their ability to teach more complex styles while being pushed out of their comfort zone. Pushing limits and redefining haircutting continues to be on Wahl Professional’s agenda for 2020. Finucane plans to continue to challenge entrants in Barber Battle 4 with the inclusion of another longer hairstyle.

Prospective participants should be on the lookout for Barber Battle 4 details in mid-2020.

“It’s amazing to be on W.E.A.T. and be able to create pieces of art on stage with everyone. I can’t wait to start educating with so many great barbers. This competition really does open doors for people who enter,” says Rosario.

For Hull, being on a team is a dream come true. “When I was asked to join the team, I was so excited. I [appreciate] comradery and being around people who love what they do and are loyal to one another, and in this case loyal to Wahl. I’m extremely pleased to have achieved a goal that I’ve had  for years.”

Says Pereira, “I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for Wahl clippers. I am just so honored that this company has given me this opportunity to reach my goals. I’ve learned how important it is to keep moving forward and to never slack off.”

When asked for advice for next year’s participants, all three winners noted how challenging it was at times to give step by step instructions, especially through a video. They urge future entrants to prepare as much as they can for the competition and to make sure to get a great videographer.

Says Rosario, “I made sure that I was comfortable and confident in the haircuts and with the models. I went down to every last detail taking notes on how I styled them, what tools I wanted to use, and that everything was in place before I started filming. Make sure you always give it your best and never settle with the first take.” Hull advises, “In order to succeed you just need to be yourself. Show your  bread and butter in the video and show how you can set yourself apart from the competition.”

SCALP ARTIST INTERNATIONAL EXPANDS TO LOS ANGELES

Scalp micropigmentation experts Scalp Artist International are ending the year on a high, with the opening of a brand new location in Beverly Hills. Founder Eddie Lopez is originally from Los Angeles, so for him, the new expansion is also somewhat of a homecoming.

Eddie said: “It’s a pretty big deal for me but it was quite unexpected. It wasn’t necessarily a goal that I set, it just kind of happened naturally. I guess when something is meant to be, it just works out.”

At the new location, Scalp Artist International will bring their industry-leading expertise to the heart of Beverly Hills, where aesthetics play an undeniable role.

“It’s the golden triangle, the shopping mecca of the world – style is everything in Beverly Hills, from haircuts to permanent make up so it feels like it’s exactly where we are meant to be. I just feel blessed to be where I am,” says senior SMP technician and
trainer Jeff Cruz.

BarberEVO co-owner David Foster commented, “This latest move by Eddie and Jeff really cements their position as world leading practitioners in their field. Beverly Hills feels like a natural fit for Scalp Artist International, and we are all super excited to help continue to promote the fantastic work these gentlemen carry out on a daily basis, changing clients lives for the better! Stay tuned for some exciting collaborations in 2020!”

Jeff and Eddie will be alternating their weeks at the new location, ensuring that everyone who walks through the doors gets the best treatment possible. This will also help ensure continuity for the many existing clients in Denver and throughout the United States.

Being the ambitious and driven team that they are, they are already knocking on the doors of the Los Angeles elite, with hopes that it won’t be long until they are welcoming a few famous faces into the practice.

SLICKS BARBERS TO GIVE HAIRCUTS FOR 24 HOURS

Two barbers will stage a 24-hour haircut marathon in Rutherglen this month as a show of support for a teenage customer.

Jordan Rae and fellow barber David Murray will set a town record by giving gents’ haircuts all day and all night at Slicks Barbershop on Duke’s Road.

The special event was organised to raise money for Beatson Cancer Charity after they learned that regular customer Jack Flexney, 17, was diagnosed.

The barbers will welcome clients to the shop throughout the 24 hours, asking for donations to Beatson instead of payment.

The 24-hour marathon begins at 9am on Monday November 18, finishing at 9am the following morning.
