Jim’s Take on the Trends

“As we set our sights on Spring, it’s time to look ahead at the grooming trends set to dominate the brighter months. From updated classics to bold new interpretations, Spring/Summer 2025 is all about embracing individuality and expressing personality through facial hair. Here, I’ve rounded up my top picks for the most exciting men’s beard trends to keep an eye on for the upcoming season.”

Five O’clock shadow – This timeless look is a classic and lives up to its name, a short beard referring to growing back in a day. This is one of the only beard styles that suits just about everyone! Sported by celebrities such as David Beckham and Robert Pattison, this looks requires perfect timing to get it looking just right.”

Corporate Beard – This is a beard style we have saw increasing in popularity towards the end of 2024 and we know will be a huge hit for 2025. The corporate beard is perfect for anyone wanting to make a statement. The style is very angular and exudes authority and power, with the beard being balanced on each side of the face to avoid any hairs being out of place.”

Ducktail Beard – The ducktail beard is a v-shaped beard, wider at the chin and narrower at the sides. The style dates back to the 50’s and is the perfect blend of undone and polished. This classic style makes a statement and suits a number of different face shapes. This style is very versatile and is super easy to upkeep making it an amazing look for 2025.”

Classic Full Beard – A beard trend that will never go out of style, this is a symbol of masculinity and confidence. This look is dense and long all over with an extremely easy upkeep. The full beard can be difficult to achieve for many, however, for those who can, a stylist is your best friend for the upkeep. This looks exudes masculinity and is great for making a statement.”

Captain Fawcett Founder Richie Finney attends presentation ceremony to receive the MBE

Richard Finney, founder of Captain Fawcett Ltd, travelled to Windsor Castle where he was presented with the prestigious Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.

Richie has been awarded an MBE in His Majesty The King’s New Year Honours, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to International Trade and to Charity.

After attending the ceremony on 12th February, Richie said: “It was a particular delight to meet His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, who happens to be cultivating his own truly top notch beard. As a fellow Norfolk boy, I found him a most charming, and indeed, discerning fellow. Suffice to say, beard care tips may well have been shared!”

In his acceptance of this prestigious accolade, Richie is quick to emphasise that such esteemed recognition is in fact a tribute to extraordinary team work.

“In the guise of Captain Fawcett, I am but truly honoured to have been awarded ‘Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire’ — Huzzah! However, I am but the conductor of an orchestra of talent, proud to work with a simply remarkable collective of people who strive for excellence every day. This is their achievement as much as it is mine.

“Furthermore, I believe international trade has always been more than simply business. For centuries, traders have carried ideas as well as goods, forging friendships where there might have been conflict and creating incredible opportunity. Amicable trade is simply one of our oldest and, perchance, greatest forces for understanding. Every product shipped is a testament to the notion that prosperity grows when nations work together.

Founded in 2010 at a kitchen table in Terrington St Clement, Norfolk, Captain Fawcett has grown to become a beacon of British quality and craftsmanship in Gentleman’s Grooming and Hair Care, exporting to 45 countries and earning a reputation for its award-winning products and distinctive character.

Beyond business, Richie has driven Captain Fawcett’s commitment to social responsibility, with initiatives like ‘BarbersRide’, co-founded with Xavier Berrell and Colin Petrie, becoming a flagship of the brand’s charity mission. After this truly auspicious start to 2025, the next adventure awaits. Richard Finney MBE and the crew at HQ are currently preparing for Captain Fawcett’s ‘Great Expedition USA’, a 6 week solo motorcycle road trip through the heart of America.

Captain Fawcett founder Richard Finney receives MBE

Richard Finney, founder of Captain Fawcett Ltd, has been honoured with the prestigious Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2025 New Year Honours List in recognition of his outstanding contribution to International Trade and to Charity.

This honour highlights Richard’s leadership in expanding British enterprise globally along with his dedication to charitable causes. These include men’s mental health, homelessness, and children’s welfare.

A key initiative is the annual BarbersRide charity motorcycle ride, co-founded with Xavier Berrell and Colin Petrie, and now entering its ninth consecutive year, which has to date raised over £180,000, for children’s charities such as Alder Hey and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospitals as well as ‘Make-A-Wish’.

In his acceptance of the MBE, Richie is quick to emphasise that this esteemed recognition is not his alone, but rather a reflection of collective dedication and team work.

“In the guise of Captain Fawcett, I am but truly honoured to have been awarded ‘Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire’ — Huzzah! However, this highly esteemed accolade should and will be shared, for I am but the conductor of a hugely professional and incredibly creative orchestra of talent that has in turn contributed so much to Captain Fawcett’s ongoing success. Together, we are building something both disruptive and extraordinary to boot.”

Founded in 2010 at a kitchen table in Terrington St Clement, Norfolk, Captain Fawcett has grown to become a beacon of British quality and craftsmanship in Gentleman’s Grooming and Hair Care, exporting to 48 countries and earning a reputation for its award-winning products and distinctive character.

Beyond business, Richie has driven Captain Fawcett’s commitment to social responsibility, with initiatives like ‘BarbersRide’ becoming a flagship of the brand’s mission.

This award serves as a reminder of the importance of creating a community, celebrating the combined efforts of the entire team, suppliers, distributors, partners, and stakeholders around the globe, who have all played essential roles in Captain Fawcett’s remarkable story.

“Life isn’t a straight track. It’s full of pot holes, detours, steep climbs and alarming descents,” reflected Richie. “As such, it’s important that you surround yourself with a motivated team who both subscribe and add to the brand ethos and believe in it as fiercely as you. Getting this formula right, will result in the remarkable. For in truth, one’s journey is defined by fellow travellers who are willing to take the road with you. Teams grow, people come and go, however, every individual adds to the creative whole. This honour isn’t mine alone; it belongs to my stalwart companions who share the weight and lift one another when we stumble. Step by step, we press on together.”

As Richie accepts this prestigious honour, he hopes that his story will serve as an inspiration to others, as indeed others have inspired him, proof that with a commitment to hard work, a dash of good fortune, a certain amount of resilience, and having the right people in your corner, your dreams can become reality.

Richard Finney MBE looks forward to continuing the company’s growth. “Captain Fawcett has always been about forging lasting relationships. It is people who cement the sturdiest of foundations, the cornerstone of Captain Fawcett’s success is in supporting communities, and expanding the horizons of UK trade,” he said. “I look forward to the challenge. Here’s to 2025!”

Paris Fashion Week with Fresha and Thaddeus

In the dynamic and ever-evolving world of fashion and grooming, technology has become a vital tool for professionals looking to streamline their operations and expand their reach. This issue, we speak to award winning barber, and fashion world high-flyer, Thaddeus, about how he uses industry technology like Fresha to build relationships and run his business seamlessly.

Fresha is an easy-to-use software designed for barbershops and other beauty and wellness businesses. It helps barbers manage appointments, customer info, and payments all in one place. With Fresha, barbers can let clients book online anytime, track client history and preferences, and handle payments smoothly. This means less time on admin tasks and more time cutting hair.

Fresha also helps barbers find new clients through its marketplace and keep existing ones with automated reminders and promotions. Using Fresha makes running a barbershop easier and more efficient, allowing barbers to focus on what they do best.

To find out more about how tech is being used in the barbering industry, Thaddeus, an award-winning barber, went over for the Louis Vuitton and Ami show at Paris Fashion Week with Fresha to see the importance of tech in the barbering industry.

Over the years, Thaddeus has perfected his craft and begun traveling and teaching around the world. He’s even had the privilege to personally cut some celebrities, such as Drake, J Balvin, Big Sean, and DVSN.

In 2017, Thaddeus became the National Men’s Ambassador-Educator for L’Oréal. In 2019, Thaddeus moved to the UK to attend Vidal Sassoon and merge the gap between barbering and hairdressing. He’s now back in North America running GRADIENT, ‘A platform for hair architecture and design. The fusion of knowledge, tools, and exploration.’

So, what about tech in the industry? Thaddeus says it’s all about building relationships and making your work and the ability to book as accessible as possible.

“I have all these models now connecting and booking with me through the Fresha app. It’s important to have a booking system connected to your profile on social media just because it stops any friction between you and your potential clients looking at your amazing work,” he explained.

This seamless connection allows potential clients to view Thad’s work and book appointments without any hassle, improving that experience for the client, and boosting business.

“For example, we’ve been able to grow our social media following, our fan base, and our community, as well as travel the world. I was just in Barcelona teaching an amazing class at a big show, which connected me to some amazing barbers. And this is all through connecting with the right people. Technology has definitely helped the barbering industry. These opportunities to teach and collaborate are a testament to how technology can open doors and facilitate meaningful connections in the industry.”

Thaddeus is particularly impressed with the Fresha app, highlighting its simplicity and aesthetic appeal. “What I like about Fresha is that their booking app is so simple, pleasing to the eye, and very minimal. I think it would match any branding, so if you’re looking for a booking app, Fresha is the way to go,” he said.

This endorsement speaks volumes about the importance of user-friendly technology in enhancing the client experience and supporting business growth. The integration of technology in the barbering industry is not just a trend but a necessity for modern professionals.

Thaddeus’ experience illustrates how tools like Fresha can significantly impact a barber’s ability to manage their business, connect with clients, and expand their reach. As technology continues to advance, it will undoubtedly play an even more significant role in shaping the future of the barbering industry.

By using innovative tools like the Fresha app, Thaddeus has streamlined his operations, built a global community, and showcased his talents on an international stage. His story is an inspiration to other professionals in the industry, highlighting the transformative power of technology in achieving success and making meaningful connections.
