The Industry Take on the 2023 Golden Globes

The Golden Globes was back for 2023 – and after a few years off, we couldn’t wait to see some of the biggest stars in TV and film walk the red carpet.

As the first event of the Hollywood awards season, the Golden Globes doesn’t just hint at who will be taking home the trophies over the coming months, but it also sets the pace for those all-important red-carpet fashion and beauty moments.  The home of some of the most iconic moments in fashion industry, it certainly did not disappoint. Striking the perfect balance of sophistication and dazzle, our favourite stars make us swoon with their fabulous looks.

We caught up with some of our hair industry favourites to get the lowdown on some of the star-studded guest list’s looks, plus top tips for replicating them in the salon.

Golden Globes red carpet reporter Amelia Dimoldenberg looked ultra-glam and blow-dry queen Lisa Carter says: “Amelia’s vintage waves give off a glamorous feel, yet feel slightly more effortless. The way they’ve been dressed out leaving a much softer finish reminds me of the iconic Rita Hayworth. Her hair colour is not only perfect for her skin tone but goes very well with her outfit and really helped to accentuate the look as a whole.”

Barb Mahoney, owner of Leicester’s Do My Hair says: “Amelia is oozing with style. Her sunset copper hair complements her fair complexion, and she sets the look off perfectly with her mermaid waves.”

Bridal specialist Sharon Roberts says ‘I love how Amelia’s colour palette works from top to toe. I feel like her colourist, hair stylist and fashion stylist must have collaborated to ensure a really cohesive look. The dress and hair are not competing for attention – it’s a winner for me and no doubt will be copied by a lot of brides this year.”

Best Musical/Comedy Television Actor winner, Jeremy Allen White, turned heads for all of the right reasons – showing that he scrubs up just as well as outside of the kitchen!

Lisa says: “Jeremy has embraced his natural texture, and I love that he’s attended such a prolific event with natural curls; it’s refreshing to see men with hair that is a little longer, looser, and in a more natural state – but still giving that groomed look.”

Curl Specialist Tori Kiff adds: “Jeremy has styled his curls back, which opens his face up and shows off his baby blue eyes. By pairing his curls with a tux, he is the perfect combination of styled and smart, with a touch of rugged and relaxed. I hope seeing Jeremy’s curls will encourage more men to embrace theirs.”

The much-loved Jenna Ortega stepped out in sexy, silky, pleated Gucci number – with hair that’s a world away from Wednesday’s trademark black braids.

“Chocolate is the gorgeous undertone I see here,” says Siobhan Haug, salon co-owner at Haug London Haus. “Those bronzed Gucci pleats are a subtle tone-on-tone complement to the warm chocolate nuances within that cool shag haircut. Our in-salon colour portfolio, IGORA Royal by Schwarzkopf Pro, has the most delicious range of chocolate tones on every level, which is perfect for recreating this look. Think coco blondes, velvet brunettes and melted chocolate on a light brown level.”

Also commenting on Best Actor for Motion Picture Drama winner, Austin Butler, Siobhan says: “I love his effortless waves offset with that sharp tux. Nothing says expensive like relaxed hair paired with precision tailoring. Incredible!”

Selena Gomez looked effortlessly elegant in a strapless black gown, paired with a ponytail. Jack Kilpatrick, owner of JKP Hairspa, Whitstable says: “I love this hairstyle on Selena as it looks effortless yet classy. The hair has an undone, lived-in feel with soft texture, which keeps it looking youthful and fun. To create this on a client, I would dry the hair upside down to add volume at the root. I would then put in some loose waves using a wand to create a hint of movement. I’d use my hands rather than a brush to put the hair up into a high ponytail – this prevents it looking too slick and neat. Wrapping a small section of hair around the band elevates it and to finish, I’d add hold and a subtle shine with a light hairspray”.

How to get Jeremy Allen White’s hair look from the 2023 Golden Globes!

Looking to recreate Golden Globes winner Jeremy Allen White’s hair from the red carpet tonight? America’s #1 Men’s Styling Brand, American Crew, partnered with celebrity groomer KC Fee (@kcfeeto achieve his lived-in, effortless look.

Inspiration: “For Jeremy’s Golden Globe look this year, I wanted the hair to look more lived-in and effortless rather than a more structured, sleek tuxedo Golden Globe look, which also suits Jeremy’s personality well,” states celebrity groomer, KC Fee.

Look Breakdown

1.I started by prepping the hair to create a foundation for the rest of the styling products. On towel-dried hair, I took American Crew® Light Hold Styling Gel and ran it through the whole head of hair to build thickness and shine.

2. Then with a blow dryer, I diffused the hair while scrunching up the curls to give them definition. When the hair was about 75% dry, I used American Crew® Firm Hold Styling Cream to create extra hold and control, working it into the curls and continuing to enhance the curls with the diffuser.

3. Once the hair was dry and had that lived-in, textured look, I took a dime-sized amount of American Crew® Defining Paste and rubbed it between my palms to activate, and pressed the product into each curl for added texture and increased definition.

4. To finish off this look, I sprayed American Crew® Alternator Finishing Spray into the hair to enhance the natural look and provide shine and hold for the remainder of the night.

Booksy Launches Innovative Service Variants Feature to Help Businesses Customize Appointments

If you are a barber pro and own a business, you may have staff of varying experience levels, with different speed of services and pricing. Although this is the industry norm, it can be tough for business owners to keep up-to-date on service lists and price menus that reflect so many variations. To make things easier and more efficient, Booksy, the leader in booking and business technology for our industry, launched their newest updated feature – Service Variants

Booksy Service Variants makes it simpler than ever to list and promote different services, descriptions, prices, and durations of services. Best of all, business owners will be able to assign variations to specific staff members.

Why are Service Variants important? Well, the business owner of a nail salon might employ an entry level nail tech and an experienced nail manicurist. Those two staffers might perform a mani-pedi at different speeds and charge different prices. If that business owner uses Service Variants, clients won’t have to spend additional time trying to figure out which mani-pedi on the service menu they should book.

Service Variants also help providers run their business more efficiently with customized team settings. Business owners now have more flexibility when assigning service duration and price to individual team members, helping to eliminate stressful workarounds of staff who work at different levels.

This updated feature also allows for a more accurately booked team calendar. Before Service Variants, staff who worked faster than others may be limited to the number of appointments or standing around in between bookings due to a default booking duration. Now, business owners can embrace each team member’s own pace by adjusting service duration for individual staff members to make sure the teams’ calendar is accurately booked.

Taking advantage of Service Variants means that clients have all the information they need to book by the experience level and pricing model they want. The amount of service time is crystal clear. Staff members availability becomes easier than ever to manage. This updated feature also eliminates common client misunderstandings which enhances satisfaction and keeps your salon, spa, barber shop running smoothly.

Start creating Service Variants with just a few simple steps:

  1. Head to “Business Settings” in the Booksy Biz app and select “Services Setup”
  2. Click on “Services & Combos Services”
  3. Select an existing service to edit, or “Add a Service”
  4. Under “Duration/Pricing”, in the “General” heading, click + “Add Service Variant”.
  5. Add a description to each one of the “Service Variants”

In the beauty business, there’s no one size fits all model. Booksy Service Variants helps businesses of all sizes embrace the pace and level of experience of each staffer and helps customers find the best service for them.

Download the Booksy Biz mobile app for free or visit Booksy.com/biz to learn more.

Samson’s Haircare Launches Matte Styling Cream for More Versatile Short Hair Styling

Samson’s Haircare, an artisanal men’s hair and beard care range, founded in 2019 by barber Jake Hamlet and relationship manager, Adam Muncy, are excited to announce the launch of their Matte Styling Cream (4 oz. / $19.00). They describe their Matte Styling Cream is the brand’s hair gel but without the shine or the crunch!

When you want an easy application, great look, and a matte finish, the Matte Styling Cream is the product for the job. This water-based, lightweight styling cream is perfect for men who prefer a matte finish over a shiny finish to their hairstyle. Although this styling cream is lightweight, it offers a firm hold for loose, textured looks or for tight, traditional styles. It just might be their most versatile product you’ve ever tried!

With scent notes of bergamot, sandalwood, amber, and frankincense, hair will smell fresh and wonderfully earthy all day long. Ingredients in the Matte Styling Cream like kaolin clay help boost hair growth and prevent breakage, while other ingredients like beeswax helps seal in moisture to strands, eliminates frizz, and maintains a long-lasting hold.

Rub a dime sized amount into hands and apply to towel dried hair using fingertips. Style using a comb or hairbrush. Blow dry for additional volume.

Samson’s Haircare is not just an ordinary haircare brand – Like many pioneers in the beauty industry, Jake and Adam hand-batched their first product in a basement using a modified rice cooker. After much experimentation and evolution, this grassroots company has become much more than just a range of hair and beard care products but rather, it has become an extension of who they are.

Samson’s Haircare products are available online at www.samsonshaircare.com or by contacting Lisa Finucane at 630-935-4534.
