Captain Fawcett’s Great Expedition

One Man. Two Wheels. Over 10,000 miles across 24 countries… 

On 7th May Richie Finney, who heads Norfolk-based, multi award-winning gentleman’s grooming company Captain Fawcett, set off on a Great Expedition, an epic solo motorcycle adventure, visiting barbershops across Europe.

Taking place in three sections between May and October 2023, The Great Expedition will see host barbershops inviting customers to a local event showcasing the hugely popular Captain Fawcett brand. As the company founder, Richie Finney, who is known as the Captain’s ‘Right Hand Man’, will highlight the best of British Gentleman’s Grooming expertise in his distinctive anecdotal style. Giving attendees the chance to meet the man behind the business, he’ll share inspirational personal stories about how a humble kitchen experiment became an iconic global brand.

The road trip aims to connect with barbers, clients, distributors and stockists, who in turn will gain local, national and international exposure though Captain Fawcett’s social media, newsletters and special features on the Captain Fawcett website, where a dedicated Great Expedition page will follow the Right Hand Man and his barbershop destinations using a live tracker.

Richie Finney says: “From somewhat humble beginnings in 2010, Captain Fawcett has become an international lifestyle brand, exported to 38 countries with distribution agreements in over 27. MR. Barbers Take on the 100 km Ultra Challenge

MR. Barbers are taking on a 100km (62 mile) walk within 24hrs and are hoping to raise as much as possible for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity, dedicated to causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure. Backed by passionate scientists and supporters, they’re challenging the way people think about dementia, uniting the big thinkers in the field and funding the innovative science that will deliver a cure.

American Crew partnered with celebrity hairstylists at the 2023 Met Gala

American Crew partnered with celebrity hairstylists Laila Hayani and Kumi Craig to provide sleek and on-theme hair for Succession actors Jeremy Strong and Alexander Skarsgard.

Inspiration: Jeremy’s Met Gala look this year was driven by a classic, clean gentleman’s cut. This hair style has a very precise edge and defined shape which requires just the right amount of product to look polished without weighing it down. Using American Crew Fiber Cream, Grooming Cream, and Alternator allowed us to achieve the exact result we were looking for and prepare Jeremy for the red carpet,” states celebrity groomer, Laila Hayani. 

Look Breakdown

  1. To begin styling the look, I worked a pea-sized amount of American Crew® Fiber™ Cream into the top of Jeremy’s clean, damp hair which helped to thicken the hair and add flexibility and control.
  2. Then, I applied a fingertip amount of American Crew® Grooming Cream and manipulated his hair to the natural direction of his hair grain; I used American Crew® Grooming Cream for high shine, to provide conditioning elements, and repel moisture to keep his style intact for the remainder of the night. 
  3. Next, I lightly diffused the hair on a cool setting to dry it in place. Once fully dry, I spritzed a light amount of American Crew® Alternator Finishing Spray to create additional holding power.
  4. For the last step in his red-carpet regimen, I used American Crew® Revitalizing Toner to soothe the skin around the beard and neck area and add a cooling effect for a refreshed feel. I then applied American Crew® All-In-One Face Balm to the neck and around the side of the hair to moisturize the skin and complete this clean, classic look!

Inspiration: For Alexander’s MET Gala look this year, I wanted his hair to be stylish, yet effortless and casual, complementing his recent role in Succession. I was able to achieve this by using American Crew Fiber Grooming Foam, Forming Cream, and Grooming Spray, which provided a strong hold for the red carpet without appearing overly primped and polished,” states celebrity groomer, Kumi Craig 

Look Breakdown

1.  To achieve Alexander’s look, I first applied a moderate dosage of American Crew Fiber Grooming Foam to his damp hair to provide heat protection and manageable volume. I then used a diffuser to reduce frizz and enhance the natural texture of the hair.

2.  Then, I finger combed a small amount of American Crew Forming Cream through the hair for a medium hold, natural shine, and added volume.

3.  To finish the look, I blow dried the hair with a diffuser. Once dry, I sprayed a few spritzes of American Crew Grooming Spray to the styled hair to hold everything in place for the long night ahead and provide the hair with a smooth after feel. With buildable coverage, it’s a go-to for touch ups throughout the night if needed.

TIPS/TECHNIQUE: Using the Andis beSPOKE trimmer, I started by tapering the sideburns and applying the clipper-over-comb technique to remove bulk around the temples.

Root Cause Clinical Host Very First Online Event

This week, telehealth concept, Root Cause Clinical, hosted their first ever online event – The Science of Hair Q&A for all your hair and scalp concerns.

The open Q&A allowed attendees to ask questions to Root Cause Clinical Expert Trichologist and Co-Founder, Wil Fleeson, and Advisory Board Member, Jacky Van Driel-Nguene regarding scalp concerns hair loss. Questions included the condition Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), Cicatricial Alopecia and if the ingredients within many of the commonly known hair loss products and supplements, really work. As well as why Root Cause Clinical can be a beneficial tool to recommend in the salon for both the hairdresser and the client.

Jacky delved deep into the taboo subject of racial bias, discussing the importance that trichologists and hairdressers are able to treat clients equally and are knowledgeable on the different hair types (particularly in regards to curly hair from 2A to 4C). She discussed looking after these hair types and avoiding hair loss and scalp issues by using the appropriate deeply moisturising products and informing clients that should they need to, hairdressers/trichologists should advise clients to stop styling their hair in hairstyles such as braids, weaves and tight ponytails that can cause tension on the hair.
