LIONS BARBER COLLECTIVE TEAMS UP WITH CITY OF LONDON CORPORATION

The Lions Barber Collective charity and the City of London Corporation teamed up to host a highly successful event on Monday October 7 to celebrate the emerging role of barbers in mental health and suicide prevention.

The Barber-Surgeons’ Hall event connected national leaders from the City of London, business, health, care, politics, charities and the military with the inspirational work of the Lions Barber Collective – who are working hard to educate barbers in how to spot the symptoms of mental health and depression, whilst encouraging men to talk to their barbers (and each other) about their issues.

It was organised ahead of World Mental Health Day (which this year took place on Thursday October 10), and witnessed hair cut at the Barber-Surgeons’ Hall in Monkwell Square for the first time in centuries.

Lions Barber Collective founder Tom Chapman was delighted with how the day went, he said: “There was a huge build-up to the event and I was incredibly busy so it wasn’t until the day when I was stood there in the Barber-Surgeons Hall about to do the first hair cut ever on the 700-year-old site under Holbein’s Henry VIII portrait that I realised the importance of what we had achieved.

“We had an audience which consisted of some of the most influential people in the hair industry, the City of London itself, the NHS and even parliament. To see their faces as we told our story and gain the reaction face-to-face when we left the stage was incredible and something I will never forget.”

Marianne Fredricks, Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Health and Wellbeing board, said: “Tragically, suicide is the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the country. This initiative is a fantastic approach, bringing the conversation about male suicide to the forefront and helping men open up about their mental health in a safe space.”

RUFFIANS WIN WAHL BARBERSHOP OF THE YEAR FOR SECOND YEAR

Ruffians has beaten stiff competition to be named Best British Barbershop for the second year in a row.

The team were presented the award, run by Wahl Professional, on Sunday 6th October 2019 at Salon International.

Despite being up against some of the biggest names in the industry, Ruffians managed to take home the trophy.

“To win once felt good, to win again the very next year feels absolutely amazing! Our shop teams work so hard and this is a great reward for their tireless efforts,” says Andrew Cannon, co-founder and MD at Ruffians. “Would I be pushing my luck if I said I wanted to make it a hat-trick next year?!”

ANDIS GOES CORDLESS WITH ITS ICONIC MASTER CLIPPER

Andis Company has announced an exciting new product launch, taking the Iconic Master Clipper – a prized, best-selling tool among barbers – cordless. The Master Cordless Li gives barbers and stylists the same renowned high-speed cutting performance and precision as the original Master Clipper, but now with more power and the added flexibility of a cordless design.

“This clipper may look like the classic Master, but inside lies state-of-the-art engineering and technology that makes this the most powerful, high speed cordless clipper Andis has ever built,” says Andis Co-President, Matt K. Andis. “In addition, our constant motor speed technology ensures it won’t drag or stall – even when cutting the thickest hair.”

As with all Andis tools, the name of the game is power and precision, and the Master Cordless is no different. The powerful lithium-ion battery provides 90 minutes of runtime and weighs nearly 30% less than the corded version.

Ideal for tapering and fading, the Master Li blade adjusts from size 000–1 with the flick of a lever. Barbers can also rest assured that their workstations will remain uncluttered and organized, as all clippers come with a premium charging stand.

Like the rest of their collection, the Master has the same level of quality woven into its entire design, from the precision adjustable carbon-steel blade that stays sharp longer to unbreakable aluminium housing that protects the mechanics of the clipper.
